• Invest in a good set of pens and highlighters that won’t bleed through the pages; this simple step ensures your Bible stays neat and readable (I'm working on a post about my favorite supplies - stay tuned!). However, although some pens are better than others, I can promise you one thing- eventually bleed through will happen. I made peace with the occasional bleed-through years ago, so when it happens I just move one and don't waste time stressing over it. 
• Consider using pencils or erasable pens for notes you might want to revise or expand upon later.
• Embrace the margins: they're your canvas for reflections, questions, and insights that strike you during your reading.
• Many people swear by using symblols (any Precepts fans out there??) as they can make themes easier to spot at a glance. I do sometimes use symbols, but I use them sparingly because I find that too many symbols on a page are visually distracting for me. 
• Sticky notes can be a non-permanent way to add thoughts or cross-references.
• Lastly, remember the power of whitespace: leaving room around your markings can help reduce clutter, making it easier to find and reflect on your notes later.
